Job Summary

The City of Johnson City, TN is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Custodian to join our team. As a key member of our facilities management department, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our buildings and ensuring that they are clean, safe, and well-maintained.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of custodial staff to ensure that all buildings are cleaned and maintained to a high standard.
  • Conduct regular inspections of buildings and grounds to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and implement cleaning schedules and protocols to ensure that all areas are cleaned efficiently and effectively.
  • Manage inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, and ensure that all necessary materials are available to staff.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as repairing equipment and making minor repairs to buildings and furniture.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure that facilities are maintained in accordance with city policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement procedures for handling safety issues and incidents, and ensure that all staff are trained on these procedures.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in custodial services or a related field, with a minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff at all levels.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
  • Physical ability to perform routine maintenance tasks and lift up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions

This is a full-time position that requires regular attendance and flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including evenings and weekends. The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment and be able to prioritize tasks effectively.
