Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Employment Services Worker to join our team at the City of Lynchburg, VA. This role is responsible for providing support and assistance to Human Services clients with employment services, educational and training needs, community work experience projects, and vocational rehabilitation needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess participants' vocational experience and needs, counsel clients, and develop employment plans to address their specialized goals.
  • Plan, initiate, promote, facilitate, and evaluate a local employment services program, coordinate with employment, vocational training, and rehabilitation agencies and schools.
  • Analyze information received, perform job development, job placement, work site development, and placement.
  • Perform work with specific partner agencies such as the Virginia Employment Commission, the Virginia Department of Social Services, Community Action agencies, Community Services agencies, private industry councils, and supporting nonprofit organizations, and provide policy recommendations for coordinating services.
  • Evaluate vocational programs and services to clients.
  • Maintain employment service records and prepare reports.
  • Determine employment services eligibility and sanction clients when appropriate.
  • Supervise, on an individual or group basis, the client's job search activities.
  • Provide guidance to clients seeking solutions to specific problems, such as child care, management of finances, housing, health needs, education, vocational training, and employment.
  • Locate, develop, and coordinate community resources.
  • Monitor work site placement and maintain regular contact with the work site supervisor.
  • Participate in City Emergency Plan.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Represent the department and interpret agency programs to other agencies, community groups, and associations, and make public presentations.
  • Execute financial documents related to employment services cases.
  • Transport clients to and from other locally developed activities.
Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university with major work in sociology, psychology, health, or related field; some experience in working with the public and professional counseling or interviewing helpful; the ability to use various types of computer software and hardware; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training within 90 days of employment.
  • May also be required to complete higher levels of NIMS training as determined appropriate for the position.
  • Must have a valid Virginia driver's license and an acceptable driving record according to the City's criteria.
