Job Summary:

As a Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant at Kaiser Permanente, you will provide high-quality patient care by performing cardiovascular surgical preparation procedures, peri-operative and post-operative procedures, and assisting in performing cardiovascular surgical procedures.


Essential Responsibilities:

Conduct admission evaluations on new patients, including obtaining medical information and history, reviewing medical records, performing physical exams, and transcribing findings into patient records.


Provide patient and family education on surgery, recovery, and risk factor modification, and answer questions regarding blood transfusions.


Perform cardiovascular surgery peri-operative procedures, including locating and displaying chest x-rays and patient information, and reviewing patient charts for allergies, medical history, and abnormal physical findings.


Assist in performing cardiovascular surgical procedures, including opening chests and cannulating great vessels and heart.


Perform invasive procedures, including insertion and removal of LABP, chest tube, arterial line placement, central line placement, and Swan Ganz insertion.


Administer intravenous medications for treatment of arrhythmias and perform post-operative procedures, including transcription of standard post-operative orders into patient records.


Assist physicians with evaluation and management of intravascular volume, pharmacological therapeutics, and nutritional status, and review patients' cardiac, respiratory, renal, neurological, and gastrointestinal status during recovery.


Perform patient discharge in conjunction with social workers, pharmacists, and physical therapists, and dictate discharge and transfer summaries in a timely manner.



Basic Qualifications:
Graduate of an approved primary care physician assistant or surgical assistant program, and a Physician Assistant License (California).
