Job Summary

The Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy seeks a highly skilled Labor Relations Director to join our team. This is a critical role that requires a deep understanding of labor laws, collective bargaining trends, and employee relations strategies. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing labor relations programs, tools, and resources to support the creation of alignment, consistency, and accountability in the management of labor issues.

Key Responsibilities

• Facilitate the resolution of labor issues involving collective bargaining employees and their managers.
• Anticipate trends in the labor markets and respond to them, often anticipating policy or operational changes that require pre-emptive actions.
• Provide interpretations of labor contracts to leadership, managers, and employees in response to on and off-campus labor or emergent issues impacting our employees and extrapolate the outcomes into modifications of business practices and even operations.
• Serve as a key representative in the University's bargaining team in contract negotiations with recognized employee organizations.
• Maintain current knowledge of employee and labor relations trends, legal decisions, and statutory changes; conduct research necessary to support contract negotiations and employee relations.
• Use appropriate negotiation strategies to develop bargaining goals and negotiate contracts consistent with the University's goals.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field.
• 10 or more years of progressively responsible professional experience in employee relations, collective bargaining, and labor relations activities.
• Experience leading contract administration, grievance processing, performance management, and disciplinary activities, as well as facilitating on-going communication and working relationships with employee representative organizations and other company stakeholders.
• Knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations (e.g., FLSA, FMLA, ADA) and prior experience in consulting with internal clients on employee and labor relations matters.
• Proven effective use of mediation and conflict resolution techniques.
• Proficiency in partnering with business leaders to drive strategies.
• Proven ability to influence and achieve results through others.
• Ability to establish credibility with numerous constituents.

Preferred Qualifications

• Terminal legal degree preferred.
• Prior labor relations experience in higher education, navigating complex unionized employee work environment and negotiations.

Pay Range

$138,250.00 - $207,350.00

Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
