Job Summary

The Clinical Staff Pharmacist is a vital member of the DCH Health System team, responsible for preparing and dispensing medications and pharmaceutical supplies to inpatients and outpatients of all ages. This role requires a strong working knowledge of State and Federal laws and regulations affecting the practice of pharmacy.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Reviews and interprets medication orders to ensure safety for patients of all ages using patient profiles and available clinical data.
  2. Ensures a safe and appropriate medication use process through reporting and communication with other health care providers.
  3. Monitors work flow to ensure all daily distributive and clinical functions are accomplished and supervises technical staff to assure distribution tasks are completed in an accurate and timely manner.
  4. Participates in the efficient and economical use of medications, supplies, and resources.
  5. Provides medication information and educational programs to patients and health care staff.
  6. Monitors the medication use process on a routine basis and reports inconsistencies to improve medication safety within the hospital.
  7. Participates in performance improvement activities.
  8. Provides immediate, direct supervision to unlicensed pharmacy students and interns.
  9. Maintains professional performance and behavior.

Requirements
  • Pharm.D. or B.S. Degree required.
  • Residency or hospital experience (3-5 years) preferred.
  • Must be currently licensed to practice pharmacy in the State of Alabama.
  • Must be able to operate computer, calculator, telephone, and other pharmaceutical equipment.
  • Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.

  • Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment.

Physical Factors
  • Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must be able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to tolerate prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing.
  • Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range.
