Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Medical Laboratory Specialist to join our team at Corewell Health. This is a full-time opportunity with a competitive salary and benefits package.

Salary:$65,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience

About the Role

The Medical Laboratory Specialist will be responsible for performing various routine and specialized tests and procedures in one or more areas of work, such as Chemistry, Hematology/Coagulation, Immunohematology, Histocompatibility, Flow Cytometry, Molecular Pathology, Ancillary Testing, Microbiology, and other specialty departments.

The ideal candidate will have a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university with 16 semester hours in biology and 16 semester hours in chemistry. Completion of a clinical laboratory approved or accredited program by NAACLS or at least three months documented laboratory training in each specialty is also required.

Certification, licensure, or registration by one of the following agencies is mandatory: ASCP Medical Laboratory Scientist - MLS(ASCP), ASCP Medical Technologist - MT(ASCP), ASCP International Medical Laboratory Scientist - MLS(ASCPi), AMT Medical Technologist - MT(AMT), or other acceptable certifying agency/work experience approved by Lab Administration.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and be able to effectively interact with healthcare professionals, patients, and colleagues. They will also possess strong problem-solving abilities and be proficient in laboratory equipment and instruments.

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and specialized tests and procedures in various areas of work
  • Release quality patient test results and evaluate instrument performance and quality control results
  • Correlate results with other laboratory data and/or disease states and identify technical, instrument, pharmacologic, and/or physiologic causes of unexpected test results
  • Standardize, calibrate, perform preventative maintenance, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instruments
  • Participate in the development and design of new test procedures and methodologies
  • Assist in the instruction of clinical laboratory science to students, residents, and new employees
Requirements
