Job Description:

The Clinical Trial Research Nurse I Oncology Specialist role at Kaiser Permanente in Vallejo, California is a key position that plays a crucial part in ensuring the integrity and quality of clinical trials. As a novice level position, this individual will work under the guidance and supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI) to assist in maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, Institutional Review Board (IRB) approvals, and Kaiser Permanente policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Compliance:
    • Support and comply with the Principles of Responsibility (Kaiser Permanente Code of Conduct)
    • Assist with ensuring compliance with KPNC IRB approved protocols
  • Study Implementation:
    • Coordinate research activities as outlined in the Major Responsibilities below
    • Perform nursing procedures required in the protocol, and report all protocol violations/deviations and adverse events to the PI in a timely manner
    • Utilize nursing skills to coordinate research-related activities (e.g., scheduling study visits, assisting with nursing assessment of participants, adverse events, and data collection including laboratory and diagnostic studies)
  • Leadership and Communication:
    • Communicate with and educate the research participant about study activities and requirements, as needed
    • Maintain ongoing communication with internal and external parties, Sponsor, PI, clinical trials administrative management, study participants, and KPNC Offices of Clinical Trial Compliance and Operations
  • Education and Training:
    • Participate in training, education, and development activities to improve own knowledge and performance
    • Work with an assigned mentor on a regular basis for training and resource questions
  • Quality Improvement:
    • Perform routine quality control activities and assist with quality improvement initiatives
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you should have a minimum two years of clinical nursing experience in a hospital, clinic or similar healthcare setting within the last three years. You must also have a Registered Nurse License (California) and be proficient in electronic health systems and databases used in a research environment.

A basic understanding of medical terminology, drug calculation skills, and problem-solving skills are also essential. Additionally, you should be able to manage multiple tasks with time deadlines and prioritize organizational skills.

Salary Information:

The estimated annual salary for this role is $85,000 - $115,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
