Job Summary:

A full-time position at Spectrum Health is available for a Public Health Dental Hygienist. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing oral hygiene and preventive services to dental patients. They will also provide oral health information to individuals and groups.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the oral health management of all clinic patients.

• Obtain baseline oral hygiene assessment data based on accepted principles of oral hygiene and periodontal care.

• Record patient-hygienist transactions in the patient's dental record to ensure accurate and complete documentation of the contact, patient condition, and provided care.

• Provide oral health education and individual counseling for all center dental patients.

• Offer clinical oral hygiene services, including dental prophylaxis, scaling, sealant application, and fluoride application, in accordance with professional standards and protocols.

• Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to integrate patient dental hygiene care into overall health management.

• Organize and perform preventive oral health presentations at on-site and off-site locations.

• Provide technical assistance and health education in the community as requested.

• Participate in the quality assurance program of the Dental Department.

• Perform independent procedures as delegated and directed by a dentist, in accordance with state regulations and law, as well as Dental Department protocol and directive.

• Maintain all Dental Department areas in compliance with Dental Department directives and policies, as well as center policies and procedures related to infection control, exposure control, and safety issues.

• Ensure proper disposal of contaminated or potentially contaminated materials in accordance with Dental Department directives and center policy, as well as state and federal regulations.

• Comply with the center's Exposure Control Plan.

• Travel when necessary to meet operational needs.

• Adhere to all applicable federal, state, local, and center rules, regulations, protocols, and procedures governing the practice of dental hygiene and the clinical provision of dental hygiene services, as well as those related to personnel issues, workplace safety, public health, and confidentiality.

Requirements:

• Associate's degree or equivalent.

• Licensed to practice oral hygiene in Pennsylvania.

• Public Health Certified or in the process of obtaining certification.

• Current CPR certification.

• 2-4 years' experience as a dental hygienist.
