Family Preservation Counselor Job Description

Cayuga Centers, a non-profit human services agency, is seeking a skilled Family Preservation Counselor to join our team. This role involves working with families in their homes to provide intensive therapeutic support and promote a stable family environment.

About the Position

The Family Preservation Program serves families at risk of foster care placement or those in need of intensive therapy. Our program makes a significant difference by reducing removal risks and decreasing reports received by child protective services.

Responsibilities
  • Utilize evidence-based strategies to facilitate behavior change and empower families to become self-sufficient.
  • Provide home-based case management support and crisis interventions to individuals and families.
  • Model and teach basic life skills to promote family stability and well-being.
  • Acknowledge and address potential safety concerns while promoting a nurturing family environment.
  • Become a primary support for families, helping them develop preventative and responsive skills to navigate crises effectively.
  • Demonstrate inclusive and accepting practice in the office and field to foster a diverse and supportive culture.
  • Manage a full caseload of 2-3 families assigned and coordinate referrals to longer-term services as needed.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should possess:

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field, with applicable experience in human services, or a master's degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of family systems theory and home-based interventions.
  • Ability to engage families who may not want services or are mandated.
Work Environment

This position requires regular evening work, occasional weekend work, and flexibility to meet program needs. You will use a personal vehicle for appointments and activities assigned.

  • Pay is determined by education, professional license, and years of applicable experience, ranging from $58,458 to $82,800 annually.
