PCT - Patient Care Technician - Full Time - Nights

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Patient Care Technician to join our team at Northeast Georgia Health System. As a Patient Care Technician, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients and their families.
Job SummaryThe Patient Care Technician will be responsible for providing a wide range of clinical and non-clinical tasks to support the nursing staff. This includes but is not limited to, taking vital signs, assisting with patient transfers, and maintaining a clean and safe environment. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities- Obtain and report patient physiological data, including vital signs, weight, and skin condition.
- Utilize proper body mechanics to provide patient positioning, mobility, hygiene, ADL, and comfort needs.
- Monitor patient intake and output, recording amounts on appropriate forms.
- Promptly identify and report physical and mental status changes to licensed staff.
- Organize patient care and set priorities by implementing physician and nursing orders within prescribed time frames.
- Perform therapeutic procedures within defined parameters, reporting patient response to supervising nurse.
- Make frequent rounds to patient rooms, responding to patient call lights and initiating appropriate actions.
- Orient patients and families to unit and room, greeting them in a positive and pleasant manner.
- Explain procedures or care to be provided to patients prior to start of procedure.
- Accurately and timely record patient data and forward to supervisory staff within established time frames.
- Attain proficiency with all required IT systems to support clinical staff and accurate documentation of patient care.
- Answer the telephone in a polite and courteous manner, screening and referring calls as necessary.
- Place reports in patient charts or ensure reports are sent to appropriate units.
- Contribute to patient safety by utilizing Universal Precautions, adhering to NGHS Hand Hygiene policy, and maintaining a safe patient environment.
- Distribute linen and ice to patients as needed, offering refreshments as permitted by patient diet.
- Replace telemetry batteries as needed, perform patient transport functions, and clean and restock as required.
- Change out sharps containers, replace glove boxes and disinfectant wipes, and prepare rooms for new admissions.
- Participate in staff meetings, respond to emails in a timely manner, and exhibit flexibility in scheduling to meet departmental needs.
- Complete unit-specific and annual competency assessment requirements within specified timelines.
- Licensure or certification: Current Georgia Certified Nursing Assistant or successful completion of Fundamentals of Nursing Course if a nursing student or CCHT certification (for dialysis unit only).
- Educational requirements: Reading, writing, and math skills at a 10th grade completion level or higher, as evidenced by a High School Diploma, GED, or high school transcript showing completion of at least the sophomore level of high school.
- Minimum experience: On-the-job training; previous experience as Patient Care Tech desirable.
- Other: Good interpersonal skills, physical ability to push/pull patients, adaptability in changing situations and work assignments, ability to accept direction from professional nursing staff, and perform basic technical skills and procedures.
- Preferred licensure or certification: CCHT certification (for dialysis unit only).
- Preferred educational requirements: Bi-lingual basic language skills.
- Preferred experience: Previous experience as Patient Care Tech.
