About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Patient Care Technician to join our team at Northeast Georgia Health System. As a Patient Care Technician, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients and their families.

Job Summary

The Patient Care Technician will be responsible for providing a wide range of clinical and non-clinical tasks to support the nursing staff. This includes but is not limited to, taking vital signs, assisting with patient transfers, and maintaining a clean and safe environment. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
  • Obtain and report patient physiological data, including vital signs, weight, and skin condition.
  • Utilize proper body mechanics to provide patient positioning, mobility, hygiene, ADL, and comfort needs.
  • Monitor patient intake and output, recording amounts on appropriate forms.
  • Promptly identify and report physical and mental status changes to licensed staff.
  • Organize patient care and set priorities by implementing physician and nursing orders within prescribed time frames.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures within defined parameters, reporting patient response to supervising nurse.
  • Make frequent rounds to patient rooms, responding to patient call lights and initiating appropriate actions.
  • Orient patients and families to unit and room, greeting them in a positive and pleasant manner.
  • Explain procedures or care to be provided to patients prior to start of procedure.
  • Accurately and timely record patient data and forward to supervisory staff within established time frames.
  • Attain proficiency with all required IT systems to support clinical staff and accurate documentation of patient care.
  • Answer the telephone in a polite and courteous manner, screening and referring calls as necessary.
  • Place reports in patient charts or ensure reports are sent to appropriate units.
  • Contribute to patient safety by utilizing Universal Precautions, adhering to NGHS Hand Hygiene policy, and maintaining a safe patient environment.
  • Distribute linen and ice to patients as needed, offering refreshments as permitted by patient diet.
  • Replace telemetry batteries as needed, perform patient transport functions, and clean and restock as required.
  • Change out sharps containers, replace glove boxes and disinfectant wipes, and prepare rooms for new admissions.
  • Participate in staff meetings, respond to emails in a timely manner, and exhibit flexibility in scheduling to meet departmental needs.
  • Complete unit-specific and annual competency assessment requirements within specified timelines.
Requirements
  • Licensure or certification: Current Georgia Certified Nursing Assistant or successful completion of Fundamentals of Nursing Course if a nursing student or CCHT certification (for dialysis unit only).
  • Educational requirements: Reading, writing, and math skills at a 10th grade completion level or higher, as evidenced by a High School Diploma, GED, or high school transcript showing completion of at least the sophomore level of high school.
  • Minimum experience: On-the-job training; previous experience as Patient Care Tech desirable.
  • Other: Good interpersonal skills, physical ability to push/pull patients, adaptability in changing situations and work assignments, ability to accept direction from professional nursing staff, and perform basic technical skills and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferred licensure or certification: CCHT certification (for dialysis unit only).
  • Preferred educational requirements: Bi-lingual basic language skills.
  • Preferred experience: Previous experience as Patient Care Tech.
