Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Polysomnographic Specialist to join our team at the Sleep Wake Center. The successful candidate will possess strong clinical skills and a deep understanding of sleep disorders. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive evaluations and treatments of sleep disorders under the general supervision of the clinical director.

Your primary duties will include:

  • Collecting, analyzing, and integrating patient information to identify and meet patient-specific needs;
  • Determining final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or laboratory protocol;
  • Completing and verifying documentation;
  • Explaining pre-testing, testing, and post-testing procedures to the patient;
  • Overseeing and performing difficult and unusual procedures and therapeutic interventions;
  • Scores sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines;
  • Scores clinical events according to center specific protocols;
  • Generates accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data;
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess:

  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to process visual data and intervene when necessary to maintain technical quality of testing data as well as follow procedural protocols such as Parasomnia studies, administration of positive airway pressure and oxygen titrations to ensure collection of appropriate data;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit;
  • Knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual;

In terms of education and certification, you will need to have one of the following qualifications:

  • Successful completion of an accredited educational program leading to an associate degree with an emphasis in polysomnography;
  • OR Successful completion of a polysomnography program associated with a state licensed and/or nationally accredited educational facility;
  • OR Equivalent experience and documented proficiency at all competencies required of a Polysomnography Technician;

You will also need to hold one of the following certifications:

  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system;
  • Current certification as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) through the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists;
  • Current certification as a Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) through the American Board of Sleep Medicine;
  • Current certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist - Sleep Disorders Specialty (RRT-SDS) through the National Board of Respiratory Care;
Estimated Salary: $75,000 - $90,000 per year
