About the Role

The University of South Carolina School of Music seeks a distinguished Music Education (Orchestral Specialist) to join our esteemed faculty. As an Orchestral Music Education Professor, you will play a vital role in shaping the next generation of musicians and music educators.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain excellence in scholarly research and publication, advancing knowledge in music education.
  • Direct and teach courses in undergraduate string music education, including methods classes, to foster exceptional musical skills and pedagogical expertise.
  • Supervise student teachers, providing guidance and support for their development as future music educators.
  • Teach graduate courses, enriching the academic experience of advanced students and contributing to the school's mission of excellence.
  • Advise graduate students, guiding them through the completion of master's theses and PhD dissertations, and fostering a culture of academic rigor and achievement.
Desired Qualifications

We seek a candidate with a PhD in music education at the time of hire, with preference given to those who have demonstrated teaching experience in elementary, secondary, and higher education settings, as well as a proven track record of recruiting and mentoring students.

The successful candidate should demonstrate alignment with the School of Music's core values: pursuing excellence, devotion to student success, producing music leaders, emphasizing the preparation of musician-educators, and creating diversely skilled musicians.

Benefits and Opportunities
