Job Overview

The Pharmacy Technician plays a vital role in supporting pharmacists in all aspects of pharmacy practice, ensuring good patient care and safety. This position requires a high level of attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist pharmacists with medication preparation, dispensing, and administration
  • Process medication orders, refill unit-dose medication bins, and deliver contents to nursing units
  • Collect and process medication orders prior to distribution, ensuring accuracy and efficiency
  • Deliver prepared medication to nursing units, as assigned, and maintain accurate records
  • Perform tasks related to patient transfer and discharge, including record-keeping and transfer of medications
  • Deliver controlled substances to all hospital areas, maintaining confidentiality and security
  • Maintain automatic dispensing machines (ADMs), checking for and removing expired medications from stock
  • Restock code carts, prepare and label outpatient prescriptions, and prepare and label extemporaneously compounded non-sterile pharmaceuticals
  • Prepare and label sterile products, using aseptic technique, and maintain the integrity of laminar air flow hoods
  • Deliver intravenous solutions to nursing units, monitor IV schedules, and unused IV solutions to increase efficiency and avoid waste
  • Order and replace stock in the pharmacy satellite, maintain departmental records, and process billing and controlled substance transactions
  • Answer and direct telephone calls and other inquiries, providing professional and courteous service to medical staff and nursing staff
Requirements
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent
  • Fluent English language skills
  • PTCB certification or receive certification within 1 year of hire, with ongoing maintenance of certification
  • Registered with the New Jersey Board of Pharmacy as a Registered Pharmacy Technician
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience as a pharmacy technician
