Lead Cardiac Anesthesiologist and Division Director

The University of Minnesota Medical Center is a quaternary care academic institution with an adult and congenital cardiac surgical program that cares for approximately 1,000 patients annually. A key strength lies in the heart failure program, featuring a well-developed cardiac assist device and transplant program, as well as a very strong lung transplant program. The Department of Anesthesiology is committed to innovation, compassion, patient care, research, and education of future leaders in anesthesiology.

Role Highlights
  • Foster Enhanced Recovery after Cardiac Surgery (ERACS) initiatives
  • Develop and implement strategies for right heart failure and pulmonary hypertension management
  • Promote bloodless cardiac surgery techniques
  • Create echocardiographic education programs for students, residents, and fellows

All faculty within the division are fellowship trained with advanced certification in perioperative transesophageal echocardiography. The Department hosts a Cardiac Anesthesiology fellowship (two positions per year) and collaborates closely with Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine to oversee post-operative management of cardiac surgery patients in the CTICU; several cardiac anesthesiologists are also intensivists.

Requirements
  • Completion of an accredited ACGME Anesthesiology residency
  • Board certification in Anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology
  • Board certification in Cardiac Anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology
  • Desirable: Training in Critical Care Medicine
  • Eligibility to work in the United States
  • Advanced Certification in Echocardiography
  • A track record of original research and publications
  • Demonstrated accomplishments in team leadership and mentorship of younger faculty
  • Demonstrated accomplishments in resident and fellow education
  • Eligible for appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level
