DPS License Specialist II - Regional Operations

Job Summary:

We are seeking highly skilled and experienced License Specialists to join our team at the Texas Department of Public Safety. As a License Specialist II, you will be responsible for performing moderately complex licensing and permitting work in a Regional Operations Field office of the Driver License Division.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Receives and reviews license and permit applications to ensure compliance with applicable policies, administrative codes, and statutes.
  • Communicates with external and internal customers to provide information and services.
  • Approves license and permit applications based on state regulations, administrative codes, and agency policies and procedures.
  • Performs basic checks of physical driving capabilities of applicants, including vision testing and evaluation of hearing, mental, visual, or physical restrictions.
  • Inspects motor vehicles for safety prior to road tests, verifies evidence of financial responsibility, and checks for registration and/or reciprocity.
  • Issues licenses and permits, collects license fees, and prepares receipts.
  • Maintains accurate records and reports, including license and permit applications, payments, and required technical data.
  • Provides information and testimony for the Department in administrative, driver improvement, safety responsibility, and judicial hearings.
  • May provide on-the-job training for co-workers.
  • May travel to work in other Driver License Offices and/or to and from Headquarters for training.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of general office, volunteer, or customer service experience.
  • Valid driver license required.
  • Certification as a Commercial Knowledge Examiner (CKE) is required.
  • Working knowledge of TXDPS, State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to exercise poise, tact, diplomacy, and an ability to establish and maintain positive, working/professional relationships with internal/external customers.
  • Organized, flexible, and able to effectively prioritize in a multi-demand and constantly changing environment.
  • Ability to construct and deliver clear, concise, and professional presentations to a variety of audiences and/or individuals.
Work Environment:

This position requires the possibility of extended work hours as early as 7:00am to as late as 10:00pm. Weekend work may be required.
