Animal Care Specialist

The Animal Care Specialist is responsible for providing exceptional care and support to our patients in the hospital and boarding facility. This role involves cleaning, laundry, bathing, feeding, walking dogs, and medicating. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting methods, proper animal restraint, and the ability to use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency. Additionally, they will be able to perform moderately heavy physical labor and attend to sick, scared, and injured animals sympathetically and patiently.
Responsibilities
- Clean and disinfect animal enclosures and equipment
- Restock hospital supplies and assist with post-operative patients
- Assist doctors and assistants with animal restraint and exams
- Maintain proper recordkeeping of medications, special foods, appetite, behavior, and any issues that may arise while the animal is in our care
- Clean and sterilize surgical instruments
Requirements
- Knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting methods
- Proper methods of animal restraint
- Ability to use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency
- Perform moderately heavy physical labor
- Ability to attend to sick, scared, and injured animals sympathetically and patiently
- Ability to learn to administer medications and recognize abnormal conditions
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions
- Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of the job
