About the Role

The Heavy Equipment Specialist operates mobile and other cranes to lift, move, and position loads on construction worksites. This role requires a high level of expertise and knowledge of heavy equipment operation, safety protocols, and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Set up and inspect cranes and other heavy equipment to ensure they are in good working order.
  • Operate cranes, including crawler cranes, RT cranes, AT cranes, and truck cranes, to perform various tasks such as lifting, moving, and positioning loads.
  • Keep cranes and associated equipment clean and well-maintained to prevent mechanical issues and ensure efficient operation.
  • Secure cargo for transport using ropes, blocks, chains, and covers to prevent damage or loss during transit.
  • Use cable equipment to lift and move materials, machinery, and other heavy objects safely and efficiently.
  • Communicate effectively with other workers through hand signals or voice signals transmitted via radio to coordinate tasks and ensure safe operation.
  • Inspect and prepare loads and rigging to ensure they are properly secured and ready for transport.
  • Determine load weights and check them against lifting capacities to prevent overload and ensure safe operation.
  • Assist project teams in preparing and executing lift plans to ensure safe and efficient execution.
  • Assist project teams in selecting rigging gear to meet specific project requirements.
  • Operate other heavy equipment, including backhoes, dozers, loaders, scrapers, and compactors, as needed to support construction projects.
  • Perform pre-inspection, startup, and function tests on heavy equipment to identify any issues or malfunctions before use.
  • Clean cranes, other equipment, workplaces, and jobsites regularly to maintain a safe and organized environment.
  • Making minor repairs to company cranes and other heavy equipment as needed to ensure optimal performance.
  • Reporting serious mechanical problems to the appropriate personnel to ensure prompt repair or replacement.
  • Interpreting load charts and operator's manuals to ensure safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment.
  • Manually moving material from one place to another as needed to support construction projects.
  • Keeping records and logs of heavy equipment usage, maintenance, and repairs to ensure accurate tracking and reporting.
  • Completing job tickets and other paperwork accurately and promptly to ensure timely payment and project completion.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A High school diploma or equivalent.
  • National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) certification for fixed and swing cranes.
  • National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) certification for rigging.
  • At least 3 years of experience as a certified crane operator on fixed and swing cranes.
  • Knowledge of OSHA Regulations and ANSI standards in crane operations.
  • Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • Exceptional relationship-building, listening, and communication skills.
