Data Analyst and Research Coordinator

Stony Brook Medicine seeks a highly skilled Data Analyst and Research Coordinator to support the Acoustic Gates Project. This full-time position is eligible for overtime provisions under the FLSA.
As a Data Analyst and Research Coordinator, you will be responsible for managing acoustic array networks, processing data, and analyzing movement statistics. You will create maps and GIS, run queries, write reports, and submit them to NYSDEC. Additionally, you will maintain a research database composed of millions of detections of fish and aid in the organization and processing of fish samples acquired through surveys.
The successful candidate will possess excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with experience working independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem-solving. Strategic and analytical thinking skills are necessary to solve problems and make effective decisions in this role.
Responsibilities:
- Data Analysis & Management: Process acoustic telemetry data shortly after downloading receivers and analyze movement statistics.
- Procurement: Lead the purchasing for acoustic array expansion into Long Island Sound, responsible for procuring all supplies, equipment, and service contracts for projects using Wolfmart.
- Cruise Coordination: Coordinate all pre-cruise organizing activities and schedule fieldwork, serve as chief scientist, and represent the science party's concerns to the research vessel captain.
- Publications & Reports: Assist with preparation of reports to sponsors and development of manuscripts for scientific journal publication.
- Laboratory Coordination: Assist in the operation and organizing of the daily activities of a 15+ person laboratory.
Estimated Salary Range: $62,000 - $82,000 per year, based on location and experience. This position is eligible for an additional $3,400 annual location pay, paid biweekly.
