About the Position

The University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a Veterinary Nurse/Veterinary Technician, Avian/Exotics/Zoo Clinical Specialist position within the Small Animal Clinical Sciences department.

About the Job

This entry-level nursing role provides medical, surgical, and/or anesthetic care to patients. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing patients, performing triage, and preparing them for exams or treatments. They will also administer medication and treatment, establish a plan of care, and confer with owners.

The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA-accredited program and be able to obtain a license to practice in Tennessee within their first year of employment.

Responsibilities
  • Provides entry-level medical, surgical, and/or anesthetic nursing care or diagnostic imaging by assessing patients, performing triage, and preparing patients for exams or treatments.
  • Performs prescribed diagnostic procedures and analyzes results.
  • Records patients' medical histories, symptoms, and observations.
  • Administers medication and treatment.
  • Helps to establish a plan of care and confers with owner.
  • Regularly communicates with supervising Clinician.
  • Operates medical equipment.
  • Collaborates with others to ensure quality patient care is received.
  • Enters charges on patient accounts.
  • Manages supplies, equipment, and inventory.
Requirements
  • Graduate degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA-accredited program.
  • Licence to practice in Tennessee within the first year of employment.
  • Ability to work in a high-stress environment.
  • Excellent communication and animal handling skills.
Estimated Salary Range

$60,000 - $80,000 per annum.

About the Workplace

The University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine is operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year. Occasional weekend, evening, or holiday work may be required of this position.
