As a Veterinary Medical Director for one of our thriving Petco Total Care hospitals, you will play a critical role in leading our hospital veterinary team in providing excellent care while promoting a positive and inclusive work environment.

About the Role

The purpose of this position is to lead the hospital veterinary team in providing exceptional patient care and fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for delivering high-quality medical care, a talent for mentoring and coaching veterinarians, and excellent leadership skills.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading the hospital veterinary team to provide exceptional patient care and promote a culture of safety and quality.
  • Mentoring and coaching veterinarians to develop their clinical skills and improve client communication.
  • Partnering with the Hospital Office Manager to drive hospital commitment to medical quality and ensure compliance with Petco Medical SOPs and state practice act requirements.
  • Conducting regular reviews of electronic medical records to identify areas for improvement and provide feedback to hospital veterinarians.
  • Developing treatment plans for patients undergoing daytime hospitalization and ensuring continuity of patient care through effective communication with referral hospitals and clients.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school.
  • 1-3 years minimum of clinical veterinary experience, preferably in a similar leadership role.
  • Experience mentoring and coaching veterinarians, as well as strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Active licensure as a veterinarian without contingencies in the state where the hospital is located or ability to obtain by start date.
  • Current DEA license and Controlled Substance License, if applicable, in the state where the hospital is located or ability to obtain by start date.
Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of $120,000 - $150,000 per year, depending on experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, 401(k) matching, and paid time off.
