Job Summary

Northern Kentucky University seeks a highly qualified individual to fill the position of Director of the School of Nursing. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing the school's strategic goals and objectives, providing direction and leadership to achieve the school's mission and goals, and maintaining its values and philosophy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement the school's strategic plan and progress toward attaining strategic goals, including enhancement of inter-professional education, accelerated online programs, graduate programming, and research.
  • Facilitate administrative team meetings, supervise, support, evaluate, and guide Associate Directors in the School of Nursing.
  • Support Associate Directors in maintaining high academic and professional standards, facilitate research opportunities for faculty within the School of Nursing, and facilitate professional development opportunities for faculty within the School of Nursing.
  • Facilitate School of Nursing meetings, make recommendations for reappointment, tenure, promotion, and termination to the Dean, and hire faculty in consultation with the Dean and Associate Directors of the SON.
  • Support Associate Directors in hiring adjunct faculty and staff, serve on the college Executive Leadership Council, and be accountable for assessing and maintaining accreditation standards.
  • Responsible for yearly reports to the Kentucky Board of Nursing, AACN, and NLN, and accountable for conflict resolution when elevated above the Associate Director level.
Requirements
  • Doctoral degree from an accredited university in a related field is required.
  • Current record of active research/scholarship, teaching, and service commensurate with qualifications for tenure.
  • A minimum of five years of nursing experience (including nursing education and/or nursing leadership) within the immediate past 7 years.
  • A minimum of two years of full-time teaching experience in nursing within the immediate past five years.
  • Preferred experience with managing online programs, current knowledge of nursing practice, and demonstrated experience or preparation in education that includes teaching adults, adult learning theory, teaching methods, curriculum development, and curriculum evaluation.
  • Demonstrated leadership and administrative experience, demonstrated experience with accreditation (CCNE, ACEN, CNEA), and must possess an unencumbered current nursing license through the Kentucky and Ohio Boards of Nursing or be eligible for licensure.
