Scientific Microscopy Research Assistant

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Scientific Microscopy Research Assistant to join our team at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).
Job Summary:
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical support to researchers in the Analytical Microscopy and Imaging Sciences Group.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect high-quality scanning electron microscope images on various samples
- Maintain laboratory equipment, including scanning electron microscopes, focused ion beam dual beam microscopes, scanning transmission electron microscopes, and scanning probe microscopes
- Perform routine checks to ensure equipment is in proper operating condition
- Organize and clean sample holders for various microscopes
- Coordinate training documents and training schedules for new users on equipment
- Collaborate with researchers to plan and execute facility maintenance
- Participate in weekly remote meetings to discuss progress and needs
Requirements:
- Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average
- Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a bachelor's degree program from an accredited institution
- Familiarity with scanning electron microscopy and excellent communication and writing skills
- Preferred qualifications: experience with electron microscopy or other materials characterization techniques, interest and aptitude in experimental work with large interdisciplinary teams
Benefits:
NREL offers a competitive salary range of $34,000 - $54,400, medical, dental, and vision insurance, 403(b) Employee Savings Plan with employer match, and sick leave.
