Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead large project teams to deliver high-quality PS&E packages.
  • Maintain close attention to project work scopes, budgets, and schedules.
  • Perform quality control measures and audits to ensure compliance.
  • Communicate technical and promotional materials effectively to staff, clients, and subconsultants.
  • Lead technical aspects of proposal efforts, including approach, design elements, and client needs.
  • Prepare project plans, specifications, estimates, calculate quantities, perform structural calculations, and prepare reports and exhibits.
  • Work closely with CAD drafters to prepare detailed plans.
  • Mentor and manage internal design team members.
  • Provide QC support by following established procedures.
  • Support the construction phase, demonstrating an understanding of construction methodologies, techniques, and associated working space.
  • Review and use design manuals, agency standards, and procedures.
  • Prepare calculations using current engineering design software.
  • Prepare detailed design and quantity calculations in a clear and organized manner.
  • Provide ongoing training as directed or desired, participate in internal training programs, and development opportunities.
  • Develop working relationships with outside contacts, such as utilities, regulatory agencies, and subconsultants, as directed by the supervisor.
  • Assist in preparing proposal packages and exhibits.
  • Gain knowledge of scope, budgets, agreements, and financial reporting systems.
Requirements
  • BS in Civil or Structural Engineering, with a concentration in structures strongly preferred; MS in Civil or Structural Engineering a plus.
  • 6-8+ years of progressive relevant structural engineering experience.
  • California Professional Engineer (PE) license required, or ability to obtain it within a year if registered in another state.
  • Structural Engineer (SE) license a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to delegate and lead design groups.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office, including MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Auto CAD or MicroStation.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in SAP 2000, VBridge, VBent, WinABUD, XTRACT, or similar design programs; CSI Bridge experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in general engineering principles, statics, dynamics of structures, and general engineering design.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in structural design for reinforced concrete, basic knowledge of structural design for steel, timber, and masonry a plus.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of construction practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic project management skills and tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to direct and delegate work assignments.
  • Effective written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with diverse people and personalities.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks for a design team and manage design team time to maximize efficiency.
