Job Overview
Patient Services Supervisors play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of food and nutrition services in hospital and long-term care settings. As a key liaison between patients, food service departments, and nursing staff, they must possess excellent communication skills and be able to lead and support their team effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise Patient Services Workers during meal service, ensuring efficient and safe delivery of patient meals.
- Deliver nourishments and snacks to patients as ordered by physicians or dietitians in a timely manner.
- Visit patients to introduce the services of the Food and Nutrition Department, promoting a positive experience for each patient.
- Obtain food preferences and dislikes from patients and family members, communicating these needs to the appropriate department.
- E nsure that nutrition diet care orders are provided to patients through appropriate menu selections.
- Maintain sanitation standards by following assigned cleaning schedules and completing additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
- Lead, train, and support Patient Services Workers in their roles, fostering a culture of teamwork and collaboration.
- Inventories and re-stocks pantries, refrigerators, and freezers on assigned units.
- Maintains temperature logs for unit refrigerators and freezers.
- Understands therapeutic diets using established protocols and provides assistance as supervisor if an error is observed.
- Assists clinical staff in ensuring all patients' basic nutrition care needs are met.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of experience as a Patient Services Supervisor is required.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- The ability to speak, read, and write English is mandatory; bilingual abilities are preferred but not required.
Estimated Salary: $60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
