Job Description

As a Senior Power Electronics Engineer - Application Technical Lead, you'll play a critical role in integrating variable speed drives into Trane Commercial Systems HVAC equipment and providing technical direction to the Power Electronics Applications Team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement application strategies for power electronic devices in Trane Commercial Products manufactured in North America.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the Power Electronics Applications Team, including device selection, sizing, and qualification.
  • Coach and mentor team members to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their roles.
  • Develop and maintain standard work processes and best practices for power electronics applications.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for complex issues in the field and factories.
  • Review and approve project designs and technical specifications.
  • Qualify VFDs for use in Trane Commercial HVAC products.
  • Apply variable speed drives to HVAC equipment, including compressors and fans.
  • Interface unit level controls and safety features to the drive.
  • Optimize VFD cooling for product-specific needs.
  • Analyze motor-drive compatibility and tune the electrical system for optimal performance.
  • Write specifications for electrical components in the motor-drive system.
  • Conduct qualification testing of the motor-drive system.
  • Provide lifecycle support for the product, including field and factory problem resolution.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and at least 7 years of variable frequency drive applications experience.
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering is a plus.
