Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to join our team at San Bernardino Community College. As a Maintenance Technician, you will perform journey-level work in one assigned trade, such as electrical, carpentry, painting, locksmithing, and/or plumbing. You will operate maintenance and construction tools and equipment, and assist in performing other semi-skilled maintenance duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performs skilled work in one assigned trade, observing and complying with federal, state, and local codes, laws, and regulations.
  • Performs general unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance work and may assist in other trades.
  • Operates a variety of maintenance-related equipment, including power and hand tools, and performs preventive maintenance and necessary repairs on equipment.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses a variety of building and maintenance-related malfunctions and identifies a plan of action to resolve problems.
  • Inspects work sites for any safety hazards or obstacles and ensures adherence to safe work practices and procedures.
  • Organizes and lays out assigned tasks, interprets plans, diagrams, blueprints, sketches, verbal instructions, and specifications, and works from verbal and written instructions and work orders.
  • Estimates materials and equipment needed for assigned projects, monitors inventory levels of materials and equipment, and orders, receives, and maintains inventory of materials and equipment as needed.
Requirements
  • Equivalent to the completion of high school supplemented by specialized training related to the primary area of assignment.
  • Two (2) years of experience that demonstrates journey-level skills in assigned area.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
Working Environment

The Maintenance Technician will work in both indoor and outdoor field environments, travel from site to site, and be exposed to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, electrical energy, and high voltage, as well as all types of weather and temperature conditions.

Physical Demands

The Maintenance Technician will be required to walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time, frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, and twist, and frequently push, pull, lift, and/or carry moderate to heavy amounts of weight up to 50 pounds.
