Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Patient Care Specialist to join our team at the University of Michigan Hospital's Adult Neurosurgery/Stroke Unit 4A. As a Patient Care Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to patients and their families.

Responsibilities

As a Patient Care Specialist, your responsibilities will include:

* Obtaining vital signs, temperature, height/length, weight, oxygen saturation, and pain scores; reporting abnormal values to RN

* Responding to monitor alarms and utilizing palpation/auscultation and Doppler to determine heart rate and blood pressure

* Observing, monitoring, and reporting the overt physical condition of assigned patient(s)

* Assisting with diagnostic procedures, specimen collection, and tube feedings as directed by RN

* Maintaining patient hygiene, assisting with personal care, and performing wound care and dressing changes

* Providing respiratory care, including tracheostomy care, endotracheal/tracheostomy tube suctioning, and ventilation with an Ambu bag

* Participating in emergency care, including the use of the ABC's (Airway, Breathing, Circulation) and transporting materials, supplies, and equipment

Qualifications

To be successful as a Patient Care Specialist, you will need to have:

* A high school diploma or equivalent

* Certification as a Nurse Aide or Medical Assistant, or junior status in an accredited BSN program, or two years of experience in an unlicensed assistive role in a patient care setting

* Basic computer skills and ability to read and write

Work Schedule

Hours/Week: Up to 40 hours/week, Minimum of 24 hours in a 4-week nursing schedule

Shifts: Day/Eve/Night Rotator, possible 4-hour shifts, 8-hour shifts, or 12-hour shifts

Salary Estimate

$45,000 - $65,000 per year based on experience
