Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) to join our team in Tyler, TX. In this role, you will be responsible for determining donor eligibility, managing donor adverse events, and reviewing laboratory test results.
About the Role
As a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse), you will work under the guidance of the Center Manager and the management of the Center Physician. You will be expected to follow regulations of the plasma collection industry, provide center-level support for environmental, health, and safety, and be familiar with BioLife Medical Affairs guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Determine donor eligibility, including informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history interview, physical examination, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
- Evaluate donor reaction(s) that occur at the facility and follow applicable SOPs for medical emergencies, including the development of Center Physician's standing orders and donor transport to emergency care facilities.
- Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs when needed to provide unacceptable findings to donors or guidance concerning medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility.
- Support the Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees as applicable.
- Manage employee incidents and determine whether further evaluation is required by occupational health/ER. Refer to EHS guidance regarding employee incidents.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A high school diploma or equivalent, including graduate equivalency of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements.
- Current licensure or certification in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Physician Assistant (PA).
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
- Fulfillment of state requirements (in the state of licensure) for basic IV therapy.
- Satisfactory completion of the FDA-approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
- Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.
