Special Education Coordinator

Job Summary
Uncommon Schools is seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Coordinator to join our team. As a Special Education Coordinator, you will play a critical role in supporting students with disabilities and ensuring they receive the educational services and instructional methods they need to succeed.
Responsibilities
- Review intake assessments to ensure students receive necessary educational services and instructional methods aligned with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
- Coordinate and provide pull-out, push-in, small group, and one-on-one instruction.
- Schedule, coordinate, and facilitate Special Education team, IEP, and pre-referral meetings.
- Manage aspects associated with the evaluation process, including conducting classroom observations and testing.
- Partner with general education teachers to advocate for classroom accommodations required by 504 plans and IEPs.
- Work closely with families in all grades to address needs throughout the IEP process and support academic and social-emotional growth.
- Maintain student records regarding special education issues and prepare reports for regulatory agencies while ensuring compliance with City, State, and Federal special education laws and regulations.
- Use standards-based assessment data to refine and differentiate curriculum and instruction.

Preferred Qualifications
- A demonstrated interest in impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities (1-2 years experience preferred).
- Academic expertise in Special Education, the Humanities, Social Sciences, STEM, or related fields of study.
- Prior to the start of employment, a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required. Teacher certification is not a prerequisite for consideration at Uncommon Schools in the state of NJ, but you do need to meet NJ state certification eligibility requirements (a final undergraduate or graduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 for graduates on or after 9/1/16, or 2.75 if you graduated prior to 9/1/16). All instructional staff are required to become certified in the state of New Jersey within a reasonable period after beginning employment.
