Instrument Calibration Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled Instrument Calibration Technician to support our Research Laboratory Support (RLS) contract with the U.S. EPA Center for Environmental Measurement & Modeling (CEMM) - Air Methods & Characterization Division (AMCD) located in Research Triangle Park, NC.
The ideal candidate will have professional skills and specialized training in a technical field that will be used for and will lead to considerable amounts of independent, self-managed work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect calibration data by prescribed EPA standard operating procedures.
- Calibrate sensors that measure flow rate, pressure, temperature, relative humidity, and air velocity. May also calibrate balances, weight sets, pipettes, and gas emission monitors.
- Reduce, analyze, and interpret calibration data using statistical tools in MS Excel.
Report calibration results and generate calibration certificates in conformance with internal procedures and ISO-17025 standard guidelines.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Maintain laboratory standards, laboratory systems that support calibration, and reference materials.
- Contribute to procedure, technique, and process improvement.
- Maintain electronic records of measurement results and reports in accordance with CMS and EPA records management protocols.
- Perform all laboratory work in accordance with established CMS and EPA safety and quality assurance protocols.
Requirements:
- 3-5 years of experience in a laboratory setting.
- Minimum of an associate degree, or equivalent training specific to instrument calibration skills required.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to coordinate service with multiple clients and maintain scheduled progress.
- Ability to effectively communicate calibration results in writing and orally to environmental scientists, engineers, and other specialists.
Preferred Qualifications:
- B.S. degree in Science or Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Familiarity with plate reader, pH meter, and spectrophotometer operation.
- Experience working in an ISO 17025 accredited Calibration Laboratory.
