Job Summary

The City of Farmington is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Associate Planner to join our Community Works Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine and complex administrative, technical, and professional work related to the development and implementation of adopted land use-related municipal ordinances, plans, and policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development and implementation of zoning, subdivision regulations, and other codes relating to land use and development.
  • Research and analyze social, economic, population, and land use data and trends.
  • Participate in long-range planning to implement strategies of the 2040 Comprehensive Plan.
  • Provide technical and professional advice and recommendations on behalf of the Department.
  • Make presentations to supervisors, boards, commissions, Mayor and City Council, civic groups, and the public.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in land-use planning, urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture, public administration, or a closely related field.
  • One (1) year experience in municipal planning or a related field.
  • AICP Certification from the American Planning Association is preferred and shall be required within four years of date of employment.
Working Conditions

The work environment is a typical office setting with occasional outdoor work required in the inspection of various land use developments and construction sites.
