Critical Care Nurse Practitioner

The Critical Care Nurse Practitioner is a licensed, certified healthcare provider who delivers high-quality patient care and possesses delegated prescriptive authority. This role is credentialed and privileged to provide independent billing services, as recognized by Medicare and Medicaid within the healthcare system.
This Advanced Practice Provider provides medical care based on the scope of practice defined by the supervising physician. Critical care providers work in an intensivist and critical care setting, managing patients by performing duties such as patient rounding, procedures, hospital admissions, and discharges.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive physical examinations and medical histories to assess patient condition.
- Order, collect, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and healthcare needs.
- Prescribe medical drug therapies or recommend related therapeutic treatments and procedures, adhering to approved protocols/policies for efficacy, safety, and cost.
- Develop and implement comprehensive outcomes-based patient treatment plans based on patient assessments, evidence-based medicine, standards of care, professional practice guidelines, and collaboration with physicians and other interdisciplinary team members when necessary.
- Evaluate patient response to healthcare provided and the effectiveness of care.
- Counsel patients and families regarding medical processes, management of health conditions, medication, nutrition, and health promotion.
- Maintain accurate records detailing patient treatment plans and outcomes, initiating timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope of practice and/or expertise.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited program.
- Less than 1 year of experience as a nurse practitioner.
- Certification as a nurse practitioner (NP) and registered nurse (RN).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire or transfer.
- One of the following certifications:
- Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Board Certification (ACNP-BC)
- Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Board Certification (ACNPC-AG)
- Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Board Certification (NNP-BC)
