Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Government Relations Manager to work under the direction of the Chief Government Relations and Communications Officer. This role will be responsible for increasing support for international democracy assistance and promoting NDI's work globally.

  • Develop and implement strategies to engage the U.S. Congress and the Executive Branch to ensure NDI programming receives adequate funding and awareness.
  • Expand congressional outreach with Members of Congress and staff to increase support and understanding of NDI's role in promoting international democracy, credible elections, and transparent governance.
  • Manage persistent and persuasive written and verbal communication to educate the U.S. Congress on legislative policies promoting democracy assistance.
  • Develop bipartisan congressional strategy and outreach for NDI teams, international staff, visiting members of parliament, and democracy partners.
  • Create and manage strategies to secure long-term funding for democracy promotion through annual appropriations outreach and congressional forms.
  • Promote Hill engagement through NDI-sponsored events highlighting local partners and democracy defenders.
  • Distribute targeted email updates for Hill audiences to provide on-the-ground insights and inform about democratic developments and trends.
  • Compile talking points and briefing materials emphasizing NDI programs' impact for Hill audiences.
  • Monitor legislation, congressional hearings, and markups on democracy assistance, human rights, and foreign policy issues to keep NDI teams informed.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To excel in this position, you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • A minimum of eight years of experience implementing government relations outreach and advocacy strategies.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, including proficiency in Google Suite tools and Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills, particularly in audience analysis and stakeholder engagement.
  • Nuanced understanding of complex, politically sensitive issues in dynamic environments.

Compensation

This position offers an estimated salary range of $88,200 - $110,200.
