Job Title: Library Information Assistant

We are seeking a highly skilled and customer-focused Library Information Assistant to join our team at the Francis Martin Library. As a key member of our library staff, you will provide exceptional service to patrons of all ages, assisting with information queries, circulation services, and supporting outreach and programming activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide circulation and reference services to library patrons, utilizing print, media, and digital resources.
  • Answer questions from the public in person, over the phone, and electronically, demonstrating a high level of knowledge and expertise.
  • Perform community outreach to promote library services and increase public participation.
  • Assist in planning and delivering library programs for children, teens, and adults, ensuring engaging and inclusive experiences.
  • Instruct patrons on the use of the internet, computer applications, and other library services, fostering a culture of digital literacy.
  • Manage fines and fees, collection development, reserves, and opening/closing procedures, ensuring seamless library operations.
  • Ensure patrons adhere to library policies and procedures, promoting a positive and respectful environment.
  • May assume responsibility for the library facility, staff, and operations in the absence of the Library Manager.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably with a strong liberal arts background.
  • Proven public service experience, with the ability to work effectively with diverse patrons.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with a passion for helping others.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, with a strong commitment to customer service.
  • Strong organization and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in computer and technology skills, including MS Office, Google applications, and e-reader devices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer services, including online searching, social media, and reference resources.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience creating, conducting, and participating in community training, programming, and outreach.
