Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Technologist II to join our team at Boston Medical Center. As a Medical Technologist II, you will be responsible for performing a variety of clinical laboratory tests and procedures, including moderate and high complexity tests. You will also be responsible for interpreting test results, maintaining quality control, and ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform a variety of clinical laboratory tests and procedures, including moderate and high complexity tests
Interpret test results and ensure accuracy
Maintain quality control and ensure compliance with regulatory agencies
Prioritize STAT and routine samples
Ensure accurate specimen identification and labeling
Ensure appropriateness of sample for requested testing
Perform instrument and equipment maintenance
Recognize instrument, equipment or methodology problems and report to Assistant Supervisor or Manager
Perform QC procedures and assess Quality Control data
Participate in Quality Assurance /Quality Improvement activities
Maintain active participation in completing initial, semi-annual and annual competency documentation
Maintain self-documentation on continuing education form of departmental level requirement
Attend all scheduled staff meetings or, if unable, accept responsibility for reading staff communications
Support education of Medical Technology students, Pathology residents, new staff existing staff and others through participation in teaching activities
Participate in all Sectional or Departmental committees or task forces as requested by manager

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science
Certification by American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or National Credentialing Agency (NCA) or equivalent agency as a Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Technician, or specialty certification
Experience required with Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry: must have two years of experience in a clinical laboratory. Experience required with a Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science: must have one year experience in clinical laboratory
Requires the knowledge of clinical tests and standards necessary to perform highly complex tests as defined by CLIA and accurately report results
Requires the analytic abilities to perform highly complex testing as defined under CLIA 88 as listed in the appendix A to interpret findings, perform calculations, calibrate instruments, review highly complex testing performed by other employees as defined by CLIA guidelines and so forth
Requires the ability to maintain compliance with all regulatory agency requirements
Requires the manual/visual dexterity necessary to prepare specimens, prepare solutions, screen specimens and operate a computer software system
Requires interpersonal and English verbal and written language skills sufficient to exchange information with physicians, interact with other technologists and so forth
Requires the ability to perform venipuncture techniques
