Position Title:
Educational Support Specialist for Early Literacy Program

Reports To:
School Principal

Status:
Full-Time, Monday through Friday

Compensation:
Competitive hourly wage

Purpose:

Under the guidance of the school principal, this role is designed to facilitate effective learning experiences for students in designated subject areas, particularly in literacy and numeracy.

Creates a supportive environment that fosters the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional growth of students, ensuring their academic success.

Responsibilities include supervising students in various educational settings, assessing and monitoring student progress, and engaging with students, parents, staff, and the community.

Develops, selects, and adapts instructional materials and plans to cater to the diverse needs of all learners. Maintains accurate records and adheres to established procedures and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts instructional activities as directed by professional staff for individual and small groups of students.
  • Designs a curriculum that aligns with the interests and abilities of students to promote their success.
  • Regularly meets with and instructs assigned students, fostering an engaging classroom atmosphere.
  • Implements instructional strategies that meet the varied needs of all students.
  • Guides the learning process towards achieving educational goals, establishing clear objectives for lessons and projects.
  • Plans and utilizes teaching methods, resources, and assessment techniques that motivate students to reach their learning objectives.
  • Maintains thorough records as required by law and district policies.
  • Available for educational consultations with students and parents outside of regular instructional hours.
  • Builds collaborative relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and the community, reflecting respect for each individual.
  • Participates in school management and contributes to the overall school program.
  • Attends meetings with parents to discuss student progress and behavior.
  • Consults with teachers regarding academic issues and maintains updated lesson plans.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent; and a minimum of two years of post-secondary education (60 semester credits/90 quarter credits); or successful completion of an academic assessment demonstrating proficiency in assisting with reading and math instruction.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a related field is encouraged. Previous experience working with students is advantageous.

  • Capability to maintain confidentiality and manage time effectively.

Physical and Mental Demands:

This position requires routine work in a controlled environment with minimal temperature variations. The role involves regular sitting, walking, and standing, along with the ability to lift or carry up to 20 pounds occasionally.

Attendance and punctuality are essential, and the employee must be fit for duty to perform the essential functions of the job.
