Job Title: Collection Development Librarian

Georgetown University Law Library is seeking a highly skilled Collection Development Librarian to join our team. As a key member of our library staff, you will play a critical role in developing and maintaining our collection of U.S. legal materials, ensuring that our resources support the educational and research activities of our students, faculty, and patrons.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, implement, and evaluate projects to enhance the Law Library's collection of U.S. legal and non-legal materials.
  • Recommend and coordinate retention, de-selection, and withdrawal of materials from the collection, maintaining library approval profiles and regularly reviewing approval books for selection or return.
  • Serve as the initial contact for gifts and donations and review donations for acceptance and dispersal, corresponding with donors when needed.
  • Advise and participate in ongoing development of collection policies, monitoring and ensuring the efficient expenditure of the Law Library's materials budgets.
  • Make budgetary recommendations and advise on fiscal allocations, coordinating the activities of the Law Library's designated subject specialists and guiding them in the application of collection development tools, policies, and principles.
  • Serve as a principal resource for librarians, faculty, staff, and vendors on collection development issues, reviewing resource recommendations from librarian selectors, law faculty, or external constituents for selection and retention.
  • Write and maintain procedures for all functional aspects of the department, coordinating and making suggestions for improvements to collection development workflows.
Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Masters in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent.
  • Thorough knowledge of legal materials, legal publishers, and trends in law library collections.
  • At least three years of library experience.
  • Juris Doctor from ABA-accredited institution or equivalent preferred.
  • Familiarity with the ExLibris Alma library services platform preferred.
