Facilities Maintenance Painter

The Facilities Maintenance Painter is a key member of the Phillips Academy team, responsible for preparing and painting a wide range of interior and exterior building components and equipment. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and paint surfaces as instructed by supervisors or from work orders.
- Protect nearby furnishings and building materials before and during every painting job.
- Mix and match colors of paint, stain, or varnish to achieve desired colors and consistency.
- Utilize proper tools, such as brushes, rollers, and spray guns, to obtain a high-quality finish.
- Collaborate with other professionals on larger projects.
- Perform other maintenance tasks, including carpentry, cabinetry, drain clearing, roofing, cleaning, flooring, snow shoveling, furniture repair, lock repair, masonry, drywall, tile, glass replacement, and appliance installation.
- Record time and materials on each work order accurately.
- Responsible for the inventory and safe usage of Phillips Academy's equipment and tools assigned to the Facilities Maintenance Department.
- Assist in preparing specifications for acquiring services.
- Adhere to safety and operational instructions, policies, and procedures.
- Lend support to other departments as needed.
- Communicate effectively via two-way radio.
- Interact professionally with faculty, students, staff, outside vendors, and Trustees of Phillips Academy.
- Work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as assigned by supervisors.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Trade School Training preferred.
- Excellent knowledge of painting materials and their application.
- At least 5 years of trade-related experience in facilities maintenance.
- Experience in reading construction documents, shop drawings, and material lists.
- Possess computer skills necessary to perform essential duties.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to ascend and descend stairs and ladders.
- Work in a moderate to high noise level environment.
- Ability to work from ladders, scaffolds, rooftops, and platforms.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions.
- Medium to heavy work, requiring the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to balance, stand, stoop, squat, crawl, or kneel in static, bent postures for up to 20 minutes.
- Overtime and holiday work may be mandatory.
- Must provide own hand tools.
- Use personal vehicle for travel on campus and transport of necessary tools and materials.
