Petco Veterinary Technician Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Veterinary Technician to join our team at Petco. As a Veterinary Technician, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional care to our patients and delivering outstanding customer service to our clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist veterinarians with routine and emergency appointments, surgery, and euthanasia procedures.
  • Perform patient restraint, obtain and process laboratory samples, and handle and dispense medications as directed by the veterinarian.
  • Schedule appointments, communicate with clients, and maintain accurate records.
  • Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures, monitor patients during recovery, and ensure a smooth discharge process.
  • Provide in-hospital treatments for sick patients, including administering medications and intravenous therapies.
Requirements:
  • College or college-equivalent education as a Credentialed Veterinary Technician in the state where the hospital is located.
  • At least 1 year of experience as a Veterinary Technician or in a veterinary practice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Compassion, sympathy, and a professional attitude in emotionally challenging situations.
  • Telephone and computer skills.
  • A team player with a willingness to learn new techniques and treatments.
Work Environment:

The majority of job duties will be conducted in the Vetco Total Care full-service hospital. The position requires bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 pounds), and standing for extended periods. A significant amount of time will be spent interacting with clients and their pets.
