The Environmental Sustainability and Occupational Health Specialist will be a key member of our client sustainability team within Americas, driving environmental sustainability and occupational health and safety initiatives, processes, and certification within the geography aligned to our client corporate standards.

The role will be responsible for implementing HSE processes in the organization as per ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards, identifying opportunities for improving processes and procedures, and ensuring high maturity of processes and procedures.

The Environmental Sustainability and Occupational Health Specialist will facilitate internal stakeholder teams to implement HSE processes associated with their area of work, identify opportunities for new HSE initiatives, and ensure deployment in consultation with concerned stakeholders.

The role will also involve carrying out internal HSE audits as per ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards, preparing audit reports, and monitoring closure of findings.

Additionally, the Environmental Sustainability and Occupational Health Specialist will coordinate HSE activities at the regional level in coordination with stakeholders, carry out HSE inspections, identify gaps, and ensure closure.

The role will also involve monitoring applicable legal compliances and facilitating compliance, facilitating collection and reporting of environmental and H&S performance data, ensuring accuracy and completeness, and providing assurance.

The Environmental Sustainability and Occupational Health Specialist will analyze HSE performance data for the region, report regional-level performance, carry out regional/country/geography-wide benchmarking of HSE performance to drive improvements, conduct analysis on sustainability parameters, and support in reviewing relevant data.

The role will also involve working with our client corporate team to drive initiatives within the geography in line with our client process and practices.

The Environmental Sustainability and Occupational Health Specialist will manage our client environmental database and OHS database, record data, and monitor the information contained therein.

The role will also involve identifying local carbon footprint from associated business activities and monitoring reporting annually.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement HSE processes in the organization as per ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
  • Identify opportunities for improving processes and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Exposure to Environmental Sustainability initiatives and reporting obligations.
  • Aware of current and evolving sustainability concepts like SDGs, TCFD, reporting frameworks, or other regulatory changes at country/geography level.
  • Technical understanding of environmental and occupational health, safety & wellbeing processes for an organization, HSE management systems, and environmental sustainability.
  • Hands-on work experience in identifying environmental and H&S concerns, recommending, and driving mitigation actions for HSE processes and practices.
  • Systems approach to HSE management, preferably as per ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
  • Should understand and leverage multi-stakeholder involvement in deployment of HSE processes and initiatives.
  • Understanding of legal requirements (country specific and at geography level) and ability to drive compliance.
  • Extensive experience and up-to-date knowledge of Health Safety Environmental standards ISO14001 and ISO 45001.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified as Lead Auditor - ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 (Previously OHSAS 18001 standards); NEBOSH/CSP/equivalent certification.
  • Worked in a similar organization in terms of nature of business and scale of operation.
  • Handled environmental/OHS improvement programs, external reporting, etc.
  • An ability to assess business needs, identifying key priorities and opportunities.
  • Experience managing contractors and key suppliers, monitoring and reporting on their performance against tasks.
  • Experience in energy management and climate mitigation programs.

Qualifications and Attributes:

  • Graduate in Environment and/or Health and Safety (Candidates with master's degree preferred).
  • 4-7 years' experience.
  • Should possess excellent English communication skills (written & verbal).
  • Should have good computer skills: Microsoft Office (especially word, excel, power point etc.).
  • Must be a team player with good interpersonal skills.
  • Should possess: - (1) Good organizational and planning skills, (2) Analytical and problem-solving skills, (3) Good and quick decision-making capability.
  • Should be: (1) Proactive (2) Self-motivated (3) Flexible (4) Adaptive (5) Professional (6) Able to multitask, (7) Accessible on phone for any emergency requirement at the location and (8) Available for work outside of regular business hours if needed.
  • Ability to handle a high stress environment.
  • Willing to Travel within North America.
