Job Title: JCS School Year Behavior Specialist

Job Summary:

The JCS School Year Behavior Specialist will provide support to students, teachers, and administrators by developing and implementing effective behavioral interventions and strategies for students in grades Pre-K-12.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct functional behavior assessments (FBAs) and observations to identify the underlying causes of challenging behaviors.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) based on observation, data or requests for support.
  • Provide direct behavioral support to students in various settings, including classrooms, small groups, or individually, by implementing evidence-based strategies and interventions to promote positive behavior, reduce challenging behaviors, and ultimately transition the implementation to school staff.
  • Assure compliance with federal, state, and district policy in addressing student behavior.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, school counselors, administrators, and other professionals to support the behavioral and emotional needs of students by ensuring consistency in the implementation of behavior plans across all school environments.
  • Provide consultation and coaching to staff on effective behavior management techniques.
  • Assist teachers in designing behavior intervention plans (at various tier levels) that promote positive behavior and engagement.
  • Participate in student support teams, IEP meetings, and other collaborative efforts to address student needs when necessary.
  • Develop and deliver professional development sessions for teachers, staff, and parents on topics related to behavior management, positive behavior supports, and social-emotional learning.
  • Stay current on best practices in behavior management and share knowledge with school staff.
  • Collect and analyze data to monitor the effectiveness of behavior interventions and make necessary adjustments.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of student behavior, interventions, and progress.
  • Prepare reports for IEP meetings, progress reports, and other required documentation.
  • Maintain a daily and monthly schedule of activities and services performed.
  • Provide individualized crisis intervention support as needed, including de-escalation techniques and emergency response.
  • Develop and implement safety plans for students with significant behavioral challenges.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Education, or a related field.
  • Preferred Certifications: Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), BCaBA (with additional relevant licensure/certification), certification and/or licensure in psychology, social work or education with relevant experience or skills.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with students with behavioral challenges, preferably in a school setting.
  • Experience with functional behavior assessments (FBA) and behavior intervention plans required.
  • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Adherence to the Professional and Ethical Compliance Code for Behavior Analysts, Psychologists, Social Worker, or Teacher.

Terms of Employment:

Teacher schedule (currently 188 days).

Salary:

Teacher rank/experience based upon education level with administrative index.
