We are seeking a Special Education Assistant to join our team at Clear Creek Amana Community School District. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting students with disabilities and making a positive impact in their lives.

Job Summary

The Special Education Assistant will assist teachers in the instruction, supervision, and care of students with disabilities in various instructional settings. This may include special education, general education, and work/community settings. The ideal candidate will be able to enhance student learning, promote overall efficiency, and maximize educational opportunities for each child.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend work on a prompt and regular basis
  • Maintain confidentiality and satisfactory working relationships with the public, students, and other employees
  • Assist classroom teachers with educational activities, including taking directions from teachers and building administrators
  • Follow behavior management plans for individual students and maintain daily behavior logs
  • Assist in implementing Individual Education Plans and preparing and organizing instructional materials and equipment
  • Perform personal care duties for students with disabilities as needed
  • Supervise students in bus loading/unloading, including riding the bus and collecting daily logs
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and orderly instructional environment and implement school-wide and classroom consistent behavior management strategies and procedures

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children preferred but not required
  • Post-secondary coursework in an educational field preferred but not required
  • Ability to work well with classroom teachers, support staff, administrators, AEA, and parents of students as part of an educational team
  • Initiative to be a self-starter and intuitive to the needs of students
  • Ability to use good judgment when unexpected problems arise and ability to use office equipment

Estimated Salary

$40,000 - $55,000 per year, depending on experience
