The System Administrator supporting the Veterans Evaluation Services (VES) administered by Maximus plays a crucial role in building, operating, and maintaining servers in various environments.

This IT Systems Administrator position is responsible for monitoring and maintaining acceptable performance of system infrastructure.

To prepare you for this role, the VES provides paid, comprehensive training to ensure all new employees provide the highest levels of knowledge and professionalism.

This is a Hybrid-Remote position, with some days worked onsite and others from a home office. The hiring manager is flexible, and details will be finalized at the time of hire.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Install new or rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements
  • Install, configure, and upgrade systems such as Infrastructure applications or Asset Management applications per project or operational needs
  • Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups
  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions
  • Provide Tier III/other support per request from various constituencies

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Investigate and troubleshoot issues
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures
  • Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies
  • Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis and upgrade administrative tools and utilities
  • Configure/add new services as necessary
  • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required

  • Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment
  • Perform Helpdesk duties to include answering phones, after-hours on-call, responding to emails, and resolve issues in a timely manner

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of experience
  • May have additional training or education in area of specialization
  • Develops solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity

  • Contributes to the completion of organizational projects and goals
  • Frequent use and general knowledge of industry practices, techniques, and standards
  • Applies knowledge and skills to complete a wide range of tasks
  • Communicates on complex or sensitive issues or drafts such responses for supervisor or manager
