Job Summary:

The Surgical Orthopedic Coordinator provides support and assistance in the care of patients undergoing invasive and other surgical procedures related to Orthopedic surgery. This role is responsible for managing the Orthopedic surgery schedule, ordering and maintaining inventory of instruments and accessories, and maintaining and updating Operating Room (OR)/Hospital protocols related to Orthopedic surgery.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage Orthopedic surgery schedule.
  • Order and maintain inventory of instruments and accessories.
  • Maintain and update Operating Room (OR)/Hospital protocols related to Orthopedic surgery.
  • Manage and update preference cards.
  • Coordinate OR room set up for Orthopedic procedures to meet start time requirements.
  • In-service OR Nursing and SPD staff on pre-, intra-, and post-operative management of Orthopedic surgery.
  • Clinical troubleshooting.
  • Coordinate efficient and organized surgical team set up for procedures.
  • Assist as scrub nurse or first assistant at the patient side (If applicable).
  • Supervise the preparation and positioning of patients.
  • Maintain records of surgical procedure pathways and guidelines.
  • Document procedure results and assist with procedure data collection and management.
  • Target and support new surgeons interested in Orthopedic surgery.
  • Develop and maintain a clinical pathway for Orthopedic surgery surgical teams.

Requirements:

Formal Education:
If Certified as Surgical Scrub Technician: Vocational or other technical school, certification, training, or apprenticeship required beyond high school. If RN licensed: Graduate of an RN education program (accredited preferred); Associate Degree in Nursing required. Bachelor Degree in Nursing preferred.

Work Experience:
2 years to

Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations:
Active/Clear Florida RN License OR Certified Surgical Technologist required Basic Life Support Certification required. If RN licensed: ACLS and PALS certifications through the American Heart Association required. If Certified as Surgical Scrub Technician: Only ALS Certification through the American Heart Association required within 6 months of hire. First Assistant, preferred
