Prevention Specialist
San Diego Youth Services seeks a qualified candidate to fill the role of Prevention Specialist in their Prevention Early Intervention (PEI) Program. This is a full-time position based out of the Spring Valley office location, reporting directly to the HERE Now Program Manager.

  3. Promote Overall Health and Well-being. Early intervention and comprehensive care are crucial for overcoming trauma and challenges. We provide a broad range of services, including case management, counseling, mental health treatment, and educational support.
The program focuses on increasing awareness, promoting conversations, and inspiring connections to prevent suicide—one community, one school, one life at a time.

Context of the PositionThis position's objective is to provide comprehensive trauma-informed school-based suicide prevention and early intervention services countywide as part of the Helping, Engaging, Reconnecting, and Educating (HERE) Now program. This includes delivering quality services in schools, such as middle schools and high schools, and in community locations to serve children, youth, and transition-aged youth (TAY), with suicide prevention and early intervention services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work with diverse groups of middle and high school youth (7th-12th grade), transitional-aged-youth, and their families in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Collaborate with school personnel and the community to reduce disparities and stigma in accessing mental health services and provide high-quality services to youth and families.
  • Implement the Signs of Suicide (SOS) presentation to students and caregivers.
  • Support the Program Manager in coordinating online documents needed for Check Your Mood Week presentations.
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct training and presentations to school staff, gatekeepers, and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and provide risk assessments and crisis intervention, resources, and support services to youth/families.
  • Assist the Clinical Coordinator in training new hires and volunteers.
  • Participate in crisis response, including grief and loss counseling as needed.
  • Participate as a delegate from HERE Now in Suicide Prevention Council meetings and relay information to the HERE Now team.
  • Assist in supporting subcontractors in service implementation.
  • Maintain accurate and timely uniform record documentation.
$45,600 - $51,120 per year(based on experience). A comprehensive benefits package is included, including generous PTO, personal holidays, health, vision, dental, life insurance, parental leave, and a 403(b)-retirement plan with matching contribution. SDYS is a Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) employer.
