Surgical Instrument Processing Specialist

At Houston Methodist Cypress Hospital, we are seeking a highly skilled Surgical Instrument Processing Specialist to join our team. This critical role plays a vital part in ensuring the highest standards of patient care by maintaining the integrity and cleanliness of surgical instruments.
This position requires advanced knowledge of sterilization techniques, surgical instruments, and the intricacies of the sterile processing department's relationship with other hospital departments. The ideal candidate will possess excellent customer service skills, be able to work independently, and demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities.
The Surgical Instrument Processing Specialist will be responsible for decontaminating and assembling complex surgical trays, individual instrumentation, and equipment. They will also ensure that all items are properly wrapped or contained according to size and type. Additionally, they will function independently to sterilize instruments and surgical trays by following manufacturer instructions and institutional policies.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with the OR staff and physicians to prioritize timely sterile products, trays, and case carts based on surgery schedules and needs. You will also play a key part in maintaining consistent and continuous workflow between the OR and Sterile Processing while practicing exceptional customer service.
As a Surgical Instrument Processing Specialist, you will be required to review and improve the effectiveness of the sterilization process using internal, external, and biological monitoring systems. You will also anticipate and respond to emergent situations, actively participating in organizing workflows, problem-solving, and managing multiple ongoing priorities with minimal supervision.
To succeed in this role, you must have two years of sterile processing experience and hold a certification such as CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) or CSPDT (Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician). You should also possess strong communication skills, be able to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers, and exhibit strong interpersonal and team player skills.
We offer a competitive salary of $63,000 - $83,000 per year, depending on experience.
