Job Summary

This position oversees all aspects of trail and open space management and public conservation efforts for the City of Glenwood Springs. The successful candidate will manage city-owned property and park lands within and outside city limits, coordinating with non-profits and local organizations to maintain and create new options for the diverse and growing mountain community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee trail and open space management, including inspections, maintenance, repairs, conservation, planning, and improvements.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with other City departments, Garfield County, and NGOs for projects and partnerships.
  • Lead and assign duties, including trail repair work, herbicide application, restroom servicing, routine maintenance, and general landscaping.
  • Collaborate with outside groups to fund, maintain, and plan future recreational spaces through grants, partnerships, and volunteer coordination.
  • Use the Parks asset inventory and mapping system to track work orders and create individual work assignments.
  • Perform annual park land evaluations, trail inspections, and archery range improvements, and participate in development planning processes.
  • Monitor and maintain the Trails and Open Space budget, making informed recommendations for expenditures.
  • Represent the City of Glenwood Springs with courteous conduct, excellent work quality, and professional appearance.
Requirements
  • Associate degree in Parks Maintenance or a related field and four years of grounds maintenance experience, with at least one year at a supervisory level.
  • Ability to hike and/or ride mountain bike trails and recreation systems on an ongoing basis.
  • Possess or ability to obtain Commercial Herbicide Applicators Supervisors Certificate within 6-12 months of hire.
  • Computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as the organization's financial and asset management programs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual in Spanish.
  • GIS proficiency or demonstrated ability to work with geographic systems.
