Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Parsippany, NJ. As a key member of our design organization, you will be responsible for the physical design and construction of ruggedized electronics and enclosures.

Responsibilities
  1. Design and develop ruggedized electronics and enclosures from concept to completion, ensuring customer requirements are met through all phases of the product life cycle.
  2. Collaborate with electrical engineers to establish circuit card assembly sizing and material selection.
  3. Coordinate the creation of preliminary bills of material and verify their accuracy.
  4. Perform or coordinate preliminary analytical results, such as hand calculations and finite element analysis.
  5. Communicate technical and schedule issues to stakeholders in a timely manner.
  6. Create and review processes for assembly, testing, and related activities during design and qualification testing.
  7. Design cost-effective and manufacturable hardware, considering factors such as tolerance stack-ups, ease of assembly, and customer installation requirements.
  8. Develop and maintain accurate drawings with proper GD&T, documentation of changes, and effectivity.
  9. Dispose of non-conforming hardware and assist with correcting production/vendor issues.
  10. Interface with internal and external customers to determine product changes needed for applications.
  11. Write technical documents for internal and external customers.
  12. Participate in design reviews and lead failure investigations as required.
  13. Support new business pursuits and mentor junior team members.
Qualifications
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering required; advanced technical degree desirable.
  • 8+ years of design experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in aerospace or defense.
  • Ability to solve complex mechanical static and dynamic problems.
  • High level of mechanical aptitude and knowledge.
  • Experience with 3D CAD solid modeling and mechanical design principles.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly computer literate with MS Office/PC expertise and experience with applicable systems and programs.
  • Design experience with electronic packaging approaches for defense and aerospace applications, including design for high shock and vibration environments, challenging thermal conditions, and innovative cooling techniques.
  • Knowledge of IPC, WHMA, and NASA specifications for Printed Wiring Boards, Circuit Card Assemblies, wiring harnesses, and soldering.
  • Experience designing and testing designs to Mil-Std-810 Environments or similar.
  • Experience with design for manufacturability, including knowledge of manufacturing processes such as additive manufacturing, casting, milling, turning, grinding, drilling, and PWB and CCA fabrication.
  • Organizational and task management skills to work on concurrent issues in parallel.
  • Leadership skills to interface with various teams and disciplines.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
  • Position entails exposure to typical manufacturing environments, including the appropriate eye, hearing, and foot protection.
  • Business office environment requiring use of telephone and personal computer.
  • Work under pressure and overtime when required to meet deadlines.

This position is located in Parsippany, NJ.
