Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Bus Operator to join our team at the Duluth Transit Authority. As a Bus Operator, you will be responsible for providing reliable and professional service to our customers, ensuring a smooth and comfortable ride while adhering to all safety policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate DTA buses in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to defensive driving principles and practices.
  • Perform pre-trip safety inspections and report any defects or damage to the bus.
  • Provide excellent customer service, answering questions and addressing concerns in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Collect fares and prepare transfers, ensuring accurate and efficient transactions.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers and other team members to ensure seamless operations.
Requirements
  • Must have a MN or WI Class B CDL permit with Passenger Endorsement prior to the start of training.
  • Must not have more than three moving violations within the previous three years.
  • Must have excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively deal with diverse customer needs.
  • Must be able to safely and efficiently operate and maneuver large transit-type buses in an urban environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to stand intermittently, sit in a confined space for an extended period, and walk intermittently.
  • Must be able to push and pull 15 to 25 lbs, bend, kneel, stoop, extend arms to reach bus controls and equipment, twist and turn waist, shoulders, and neck, climb stairs, and move both legs to reach brake and accelerator pedals and turn signal controls.
What We Offer

We offer a competitive hourly rate of $24.75, with 5% increases on your 1st and 2nd year anniversaries. Our part-time bus driver positions require a commitment to six weeks of full-time, 40 hours per week, paid training. After that, your schedule would be 24 hours per week, 8 hours per day, on 3 days of your choosing.
