We are seeking a compassionate and qualified Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our Genitourinary Medical Oncology team at Duke University.

The ideal candidate has exceptional internal medicine skills and oncology experience, with the ability to work with a multidisciplinary team providing direct patient care services.

Primary hours will be Monday-Friday, day shift, with flexibility to meet clinic needs. No evening or weekend call.

As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work with a team of oncology caregivers who are dedicated to outstanding patient care.

Responsibilities include:

  • Promoting and maintaining high standards of patient care throughout the continuum of cancer diagnosis
  • Eliciting detailed and accurate patient histories and performing complete physical examinations
  • Ordering appropriate diagnostic imaging and tests to determine medical and post-treatment diagnoses, patient conditions, treatment toxicities
  • Formulating appropriate treatment plans with critical thinking skills and high-level judgment, including prescribing appropriate medications
  • Charting patient progress and maintaining detailed and accurate health records
  • Protecting patient confidentiality, maintaining ethics, and abiding by North Carolina laws and Duke Health System policies
  • Participating in clinical research projects
  • Collaborating, supporting, and building strong relationships with supervising and back-up physicians and APP colleagues
  • Participating in education of patients, family members, new staff, students, and other learners
  • Maintaining up-to-date clinical and professional knowledge via approved CME

  • Excellent communication skills and customer service skills
  • Experience working independently and as a part of a team
  • The desire and willingness to continue to learn

Education and licensure requirements include:

  • Nurse Practitioners: Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing
  • Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program, with a Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred
  • Certification: BLS required
  • Licensure: Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina, with BLS required; National certification as a NP required prior to or within 6 months of employment
